Bath, England

June 16, 2002

Bridge in Bath this is view from the bridge that we walked over when going from our hotel to the city. The road name is North Parade Road.

More of the same bridge just wider angle. Gary thought it was very cool, so we have about 6 pics of this (and he does not have to pay to develop film).

The Roman Baths is what the city is named after. This is one of the many heated baths here. It used to be enclosed by a giant roof. It was discovered earlier this century when they were digging a sewer. The water is now green due to algea, but it used to be clear. The baths were lined with lead by the Romans to transfer heat and to form a seal. Not very healthy by today's standards.

This is the water overflow from some of the baths. It comes from an underground source that is always hot. The Romans and English alike considered this a holy area. The Romans built temples here.

This is the cathedral across from the Baths.

Here is a view of Bath from the road leading back to Brighton.

This is the hotel that we stayed in on the 15th when we got into Bath. It is called Toad Hall Bed and Breakfast. Notice the in room shower.

The room was quite comfortable - we were lucky to get a room due to a cancellation. Most places were booked up or very expensive. The morning of the 16th we got a full english breakfast - fried egg on toast, toast, fried ham and tomatoes and tea.
